Summary: F5 Networks gains a deeper level of application visibility by embedding Qosmos ixEngine® into its BIG-IP® Policy Enforcement Manager™ (PEM). Mobile service providers benefit from enhanced subscriber visibility, reporting, and policy enforcement.
Paris, France, 18 February 2013 – Qosmos today announced that F5 Networks, the global leader in Application Delivery Networking, has embedded Qosmos’ ixEngine within their BIG-IP Policy Enforcement Manager (PEM). Qosmos ixEngine generates real-time, application intelligence which is used by the PEM to analyze application traffic and subscriber behavior, enhancing traffic policing rules for mobile service providers.
Qosmos ixEngine is the de facto industry-standard software engine for Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and L7 application intelligence in telecoms, cloud and SDN architectures. Qosmos ixEngine identifies and extracts information traveling over networks in real time, providing a true picture of the traffic by identifying protocols, types of application, and extracting additional information in the form of metadata. Embedding Qosmos ixEngine into its BIG-IP Policy Enforcement Manager gives F5 a deep level of application visibility, for a stronger overall solution.
With BIG-IP PEM, service providers can now classify traffic into categories for added application intelligence. In-depth application awareness provides increased visibility into network infrastructure to intelligently route traffic and enhance performance. BIG-IP PEM also offers enforcement policies to steer particular types of traffic. For example, video traffic from certain subscribers can be forwarded to video optimization servers so that the subscriber receives seamless and optimized video traffic flow.
“Operators are looking for solutions to manage network costs while creating new service plans for their subscribers,” said Calvin Rowland, VP of Technology and ISV Alliances at F5. “The Qosmos ixEngine gives F5’s BIG-IP Policy Enforcement Manager the ability to classify traffic and provide operators with greater subscriber and application visibility into their core network for traffic monitoring and performance optimization.”
“Market leaders like F5 Networks maintain their leadership by focusing all resources on their core competency,” said Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO at Qosmos. “I am pleased that Qosmos can be a strategic technology partner for F5 by bringing deep expertise in network protocols and application analysis.”
Qosmos turns networks into information sources, making them application- and service-aware. The company’s award-winning Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and Layer 7 Network Intelligence (NI) technologies recognize thousands of communication protocols and metadata attributes, creating an essential information layer that gives the most accurate picture of real-time data activity on networks.
Market-leading equipment makers, specialized software vendors and cloud service providers embed Qosmos in telco and enterprise solutions where real-time Layer 7 intelligence is critical, such as traffic optimization, policy management, quality of experience, analytics, firewalls, cyber defense and more. Qosmos software development kit and probes can be used in all environments – physical, virtualized and in SDN architectures – to accelerate time to market and ensure continuous signature updates.
